Hearing, Sight, Taste, Touch, and Smell. The five senses. Which would the worst one for you to lose, and why?
//Oh, that's right -- they only have five senses... Poor things... they'd get so hopelessly lost in Hyperspace without those little beacons...//
\\Is that what those things were for? Oops... I thought someone had been littering...\\
*shadowy snickering*
We are an ancient race, long accustomed to space travel. Our ships are living technology merged with a sentient core, flying freely through hyperspace much like fish swim through Earth's oceans. It is their home and they have a natural ability to navigate through the undulating strangeness.
We share that ability with our ships, always knowing where we are in relation to our homeworld and the rest of space. Without that ability, we would become dependent on deep space beacons as the younger races are; beacons which can become damaged, lost, or destroyed and therefore leave holes in their navigation grid. It is a weakness we cannot afford.
